The Pocket Fire grew from 5,500 to more than 20,000 acres north of Sedona in the first two weeks

The Pocket Fire started June 19, 2026 about seven miles north of Sedona. On June 28 it was 5,547 acres and 0% contained after a 3,200-acre run, and by July 2 it was 20,680 acres, 21% contained and staffed by 1,054 people. State Route 89A through Oak Creek Canyon was closed, Oak Creek Canyon stayed on SET evacuation status, and Coconino National Forest was under Stage 2 fire restrictions.

A fire that size means a base camp, a public-meeting schedule and hundreds of people to feed for weeks. A mobile kitchen trailer is how crews eat far from a restaurant, with a refrigerated trailer beside it for food and water. Resorts and restaurants in town can protect product with a generator trailer if smoke or a line shutoff hits.

Sources

By July 20, 2026, the Pocket Fire was over 95% contained and Sedona's businesses were telling visitors to come

Sedona and its chamber said on July 20, 2026 that the Pocket Fire was more than 95% contained and had stayed at least seven miles from the city. Businesses remained open, SR 89A through Oak Creek Canyon had reopened, air quality was described as good and most trails were accessible. The Forest Service kept the West Fork Trail, forest roads north of Sedona and creek access closed because of flash flood risk during monsoon season.

After a fire, a tourist town's challenge is getting people back to restaurants, tasting rooms and hotels. A restaurant bringing back reservations after weeks of empty tables can run a mobile kitchen for an outdoor recovery event, and a refrigerated trailer holds the extra product for a surge without overbuying cooler space for the season.

The Woods Fire burned 59 acres near the Village of Oak Creek and cost $652,874 to fight

A lightning strike started the Woods Fire on August 13, 2025, burning 59 acres east of the Village of Oak Creek, and it was contained with no loss of life or property. The Forest Service and Sedona Fire District called in aircraft from other states, and the fight cost $652,874, with aviation the biggest piece at $352,285. It was also among the first local tests of the Pano AI smoke-detection cameras that APS owns.

Even a small fire needs aircraft, crews and a camp, and the bill for a 59-acre fire shows how fast it adds up. For a crew working a line in August, a refrigerated trailer is where the water, ice and meals stay cold, and a mobile kitchen feeds them at the staging area.

Oak Creek rose almost 7 feet in 12 hours in March 2023, and a rockslide closed SR 89A

Rain and snowmelt on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 sent Oak Creek up almost 7 feet in 12 hours, according to the National Weather Service. A major rockslide and debris closed a stretch of State Route 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff, about a dozen areas including the Rancho Sedona RV park were told to evacuate right away, and a shelter opened at the Camp Verde Middle School gym. Evacuation orders were lifted the next morning.

Floods cut off roads, shelters and neighborhoods for a day or two, which is when a restaurant's supplier can't reach town and a shelter can't get a delivery. A refrigerated trailer at a shelter or a distribution site holds food on hand, a mobile kitchen feeds evacuees, and a generator trailer runs both.

After the Slide Fire in 2014, burn-scar floods closed SR 89A three times in a week

In early July 2014, ADOT closed a section of SR 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff three times in a week because of flooding and debris from the Slide Fire burn area. ADOT staged road graders in Oak Creek Canyon, cleared culverts and ditches around the Fourth of July storms, replaced erosion controls, and handed out more than 4,500 flood safety pamphlets over the holiday weekend near Slide Rock State Park and Vista Point.

Burn scars keep flooding for years, so a canyon road can close without warning in any monsoon. A restaurant or lodge on the canyon side that depends on one road for deliveries can keep a 20ft refrigerated trailer or a refrigerated container stocked ahead of the season, and a road crew staged in the canyon can eat from a mobile kitchen.

The 32nd Sedona International Film Festival ran nine days with more than 150 films

The 32nd annual Sedona International Film Festival ran February 21 to March 1, 2026, screening more than 150 films, from features and shorts to documentaries and student productions, at the Mary D. A nine-day festival means receptions, filmmaker dinners and pop-up events in places that aren't kitchens. A caterer can stage an opening-night party with a mobile kitchen trailer and a 12ft refrigerated trailer, which is easier than running food through a theater lobby, and a generator trailer powers it where the venue has no spare capacity.

The 35th Sedona Arts Festival put more than 100 juried artists and food trucks on the Red Rock High School campus

The 35th annual Sedona Arts Festival ran October 10–11, 2026 at Sedona Red Rock High School on Upper Red Rock Loop Road, with more than 100 juried artists, food trucks, live music and a Gourmet Row of locally made kitchen and home items. Admission was $5.

Food trucks and a gourmet row at a school campus have no back-of-house, and a two-day art show wants a steady supply of cold drinks and ingredients. A vendor group or the festival can keep stock in a 12ft refrigerated trailer behind the booths, and a mobile kitchen is an option for a hot-food booth.

In July 2025 Sedona was weighing a 1.5-million-gallon water tank on SR 179 and a wastewater plant overhaul

In its July 2025 roundup, the City of Sedona said the state commission would charge only Sedona customers the $6 million incremental cost of a 1.5-million-gallon water tank on SR 179 near West Mallard Drive, a decision the city disagreed with. Council also received an update on a Wastewater Reclamation Plant facility plan covering treatment capacity, PFAS treatment and five options for effluent management, and approved a $160,724 shared-use pathway improvement on SR 179.

Tanks, treatment plants and pathways mean excavation crews and utility shutoffs along a tourist corridor. A contractor can feed a crew from a mobile kitchen trailer, and a restaurant or hotel kitchen that loses water or power for a cutover can use a refrigerated trailer and a dishwashing trailer to stay open.
