Fountain Hills ran one more inspection on its famous fountain ahead of its 55th anniversary in December 2025
In December 2025, the town of Fountain Hills was preparing to mark the 55th anniversary of its fountain, which the coverage calls world-famous, and sent crews for a last inspection before the celebration. For a town that built its identity around a plume of water in the middle of a lake park, an anniversary turns into a crowd.
An event around a landmark pulls in food vendors and volunteers, and few of them have a cooler big enough. An organizer can park a 12ft refrigerated trailer behind the park for drinks, desserts and catered trays, and run a mobile kitchen trailer for the hot items, so the lakeside stays clear of crates and ice chests.

The Great Fair brought nearly 500 artists and 200,000 visitors to the Avenue of the Fountains in February 2020
The Spring Fountain Festival of Arts & Crafts, known locally as the Great Fair, ran February 21-23, 2020 on the Avenue of the Fountains in Fountain Hills, its 33rd year. Nearly 500 artists and artisans set up for the three days, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and more than 200,000 visitors were expected. Admission and parking were free, and the fair runs rain or shine.
Two hundred thousand visitors over a long weekend is a lot of lunches. Food vendors along the avenue can hold product in a 20ft refrigerated trailer staged nearby, instead of hauling ice chests up and down a closed street, and a generator trailer powers booths where the nearest outlet is a block away.

Fourth at the Fountain in 2024 offered 10 dinner options, frozen treats and fireworks over Fountain Lake
Fountain Hills' Fourth at the Fountain on Thursday, July 4, 2024 started at 7 p.m. at Fountain Hills Park, with the band Rock Lobster from 7:30 to 9 and fireworks at 9 over Fountain Lake, with the fountain lit red, white and blue. It was free, and food vendors offered frozen treats, drinks and 10 dinner options.
Frozen treats at an Arizona July fireworks show are a race against the sun, and ten dinner options means ten sets of coolers. A vendor lineup like that can share a portable refrigerated trailer in the lot for ice cream, drinks and prep, which keeps the booths small and the food out of the heat until the second it's served.
Fires
The Diamond Fire grew to about 700 acres north of Fountain Hills on June 27, 2023
A brush fire north of Fountain Hills, later called the Diamond Fire, grew to about 700 acres on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 and moved north. Scottsdale Fire responded first, Arizona State Forestry ordered more than 25 engines and hand crews, and Maricopa County ordered evacuations near McDowell Mountain Park. The Red Cross opened a shelter at Cactus Shadow High School in Scottsdale. The town manager said Fountain Hills was not under threat.
A fire that size draws crews from several agencies and people from several neighborhoods. A mobile kitchen trailer can feed a shelter or a staging area, and a refrigerated trailer keeps water, meals and relief supplies cold for evacuees and responders while the fire is still active.

Chandler is about 23 miles south of Fountain Hills.

Fires
Lightning started a nearly 200-acre fire in McDowell Mountain Regional Park on August 20, 2020
After a night of severe monsoon storms, a lightning strike started a fire of nearly 200 acres in a remote part of McDowell Mountain Regional Park on August 20, 2020. The park closed until further notice. Officials said the fire threatened structures, communications towers, the preserve and utility lines, but that humidity and cooler air from the rain had slowed it.
For a town on the park's edge, a fire like this is a utility question too, since towers and lines are in its path. A business that depends on refrigeration can plan ahead with a generator trailer and an emergency refrigerated trailer on call, so a shutoff or a damaged line doesn't mean the loss of a week's inventory.
Storms and outages
A July 2022 storm toppled steel power towers and closed the Beeline Highway near Fountain Hills
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, a lightning strike started a fire that gutted a house in the 15600 block of Centipede Drive in Fountain Hills, collapsing its roof, with no one home. The next night a storm dropped nearly 1.5 inches of rain at a monitoring site on the Beeline and blew down steel power transmission towers, and the Beeline Highway closed Monday morning with power lines across it. Fountain Hills itself recorded no measurable rain.
Wind that topples transmission towers can leave an area on a thin supply line for days, and a closed highway slows every delivery truck. A market, restaurant or care home can keep a 20ft refrigerated trailer and a generator trailer booked for monsoon season, so a lost feed doesn't empty the walk-in.

Fires
A four-acre fire in a wash near Fountain Hills Boulevard and Arrow Drive forced evacuations at night
A brush fire of about four acres burned in a wash near Fountain Hills Boulevard and Arrow Drive on a Tuesday night, close enough to homes that a neighborhood was evacuated. No structures were damaged. The Fountain Hills Fire Department brought numerous engines, and crews searched the wash with flashlights for hot spots and planned to stay for an extended period.
A hot-spot watch overnight means firefighters eating on a tailgate at midnight. A neighborhood association or relief group can bring a mobile kitchen to feed crews, and families who had to leave in a hurry can have food and medicine stored in a refrigerated trailer near the evacuation point until they're allowed home.

Fountain Hills adopted a downtown overlay in 2026 to fill Avenue of the Fountains ground floors with restaurants and shops
The Fountain Hills council approved a zoning overhaul for the Avenue of the Fountains at its September 2, 2025 meeting, and adopted the downtown overlay district in April 2026. Over time, ground floors along the avenue are to be occupied mainly by restaurants, retail shops or entertainment venues, with current tenants grandfathered in.
New restaurants mean tenant improvements, and a build-out can run for months with the kitchen not yet usable. An owner opening on the avenue can cook and prep from a mobile kitchen trailer for a soft launch, and store product in a refrigerated container until the walk-in is installed and inspected.

A grocery build-out is a cold-chain project from day one: coolers, freezers and a produce wall all need power before the shelves are stocked. A contractor or operator can use a refrigerated trailer to hold product during a remodel or a delayed utility hookup, so opening day doesn't wait on the last electrical inspection.
