Paradise Valley approved an 82-room redevelopment of the shuttered Smoke Tree Resort in January 2024
On January 11, 2024, the Paradise Valley Town Council unanimously approved a special-use permit for Walton Global to redevelop the closed Smoke Tree Resort. The 5-acre site at Scottsdale Road and Lincoln Drive is slated for an 82-room boutique hotel with a restaurant, cocktail bar, café, spa, resort pool and an underground garage. Walton bought the land for $14 million in June 2022 and said it would move on demolition as quickly as it could.
Demolition and a build this size run for months, and the crew on site needs breakfast, lunch and cold drinks every day. A contractor can park a mobile kitchen trailer at the fence line, and the hotel's future restaurant team will want a portable refrigerated trailer during pre-opening, when the kitchen is built but the walk-ins aren't yet certified.

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain finished a $7 million renovation of 8,000 square feet of event space in January 2026
On January 20, 2026, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa in Paradise Valley announced it had finished a $7 million overhaul of its meetings and events space. The work touched about 8,000 square feet inside and out, including the 3,851-square-foot Views Ballroom, where the fireplace, exterior bars and partial walls came out to open the mountain view. The Views Terrace, Lower Lawn, Paradise Views and the Cholla meeting room were refreshed, and the lawn now has flexible seating on three levels.
A bigger, more open event footprint changes how caterers work. When a ballroom spills onto a terrace and a lawn, the back-of-house stays the same size while the guest count goes up. Banquet teams running a plated dinner for a big wedding often add a portable refrigerated trailer out of sight, and a 12ft refrigerated trailer is a common fit for a single weekend.

Sanctuary Camelback announced a refresh of all 110 rooms and casitas, starting in summer 2027
On September 15, 2026, Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa said it was returning to independent local ownership through a partnership between Berger Holdings and RJ Hospitality. The new owners plan a multi-million-dollar refresh of all 110 guest rooms and casitas, with accommodation work beginning in summer 2027 and targeting completion in September 2027. Upgrades to the food and beverage outlets and the spa follow in 2028.
Phased renovations are tricky for a resort that wants to keep serving guests. When a restaurant or spa café is under construction, the kitchen still has to turn out room service and banquets, and the food still needs to be held cold somewhere. A resort in that spot can lean on a 20ft refrigerated container or a 20ft refrigerated trailer as a temporary walk-in until the new kitchen is commissioned.

Camelback Inn announced a $24 million rebuild of its 32,000-square-foot spa, set to debut in January 2026
On July 18, 2025, JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa, which sits in Paradise Valley, announced a $24 million transformation of The Spa at Camelback Inn. The spa keeps its 32,000-square-foot footprint but is being redesigned inside and out by the firm EDG, with 20 new treatment rooms including three double suites. The reimagined spa was set to debut in January 2026, and guests were pointed to the smaller Jackrabbit Spa during the work.
A spa this size runs on a café, a juice bar and a kitchen that feeds guests all day, and every one of those needs reliable cold storage while the building is under construction. A resort mid-renovation can bring in a portable refrigerated trailer for the temporary period and a generator trailer in case the construction schedule interrupts the building's power.

Mountain Shadows was torn down in 2014 and rebuilt as a $75 million resort that reopened in 2017
The original Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley was torn down in 2014, and the resort and golf course were rebuilt for about $75 million. The new property was planned with 183 guest rooms, a wing of 42 luxury condos and suites that cost another $38 million, 12,500 square feet of indoor meeting space and 25,000 square feet of outdoor event space with a roof deck. It reopened in April 2017.
Rebuilds of that scale are a lesson in staging. Between demolition and the first guest, a resort team runs test kitchens, banquet rehearsals and staff trainings, and the walk-in coolers have to be ready before the doors are. A portable refrigerated trailer is how some properties handle that gap, along with a mobile kitchen trailer for the builders' lunch line in the meantime.

The 2025 WM Phoenix Open, a few minutes from Paradise Valley, expected more than 200,000 fans on Saturday alone
The 2025 WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, just down the road from Paradise Valley's resorts, started on a Thursday and ran through the same weekend as the Super Bowl. Organizers expected more than 200,000 fans on Saturday alone, and the 16th-hole stadium holds 17,000. After a messy 2024, with an entry gate closed and alcohol sales briefly suspended, the 2025 plan added a new fan entrance, wider sidewalks, relocated food and drink vendors and all-digital tickets.
Moving food and drink vendors is a cold-chain problem as much as a layout one. Every relocated stand has to restock ice, beer and perishables from somewhere close. Hospitality operators around the tournament, including the resorts and pop-up restaurants in town, often rent a 20ft refrigerated trailer or a portable refrigerated trailer for the week, so the Saturday rush doesn't empty the walk-in by noon.

Super Bowl LVII drew nearly 300,000 fans to the main Phoenix events and a record 200,000 travelers through Sky Harbor
Super Bowl LVII was played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on February 12, 2023. According to the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee and the NFL, nearly 300,000 fans attended the main events in downtown Phoenix, including the Super Bowl Experience, and about 25,000 came to the first-ever Watch Party. The Monday after the game was Phoenix Sky Harbor's busiest day on record, with more than 200,000 travelers.
Paradise Valley's resorts sit in the middle of that kind of week, with private dinners, team events and corporate hospitality filling every ballroom. Each of those dinners has a kitchen working at its limit. Event caterers who plan for a week like that book a portable refrigerated trailer early, because the week's demand for refrigerated trailers tends to be known long before the first guest lands.
Storms and outages
Phoenix recorded 31 straight days at or above 110 degrees in 2023, ending on July 31 at 108
The streak of 31 consecutive days at or above 110 degrees in Phoenix ended on Monday, July 31, 2023, when the high topped out at 108. The old record was 18 days, set in 1974. The National Weather Service also tracked 16 straight days with overnight lows at 90 or higher, and a meteorologist warned August could be even hotter than July. For Paradise Valley, that meant a month with almost no relief at all.
For anyone who stores food or beverages, that kind of heat leaves little margin. A walk-in compressor that runs flat out for a month is more likely to quit than one that gets a break. A resort kitchen or a caterer with a portable refrigerated trailer booked as a backup plan can keep serving through the failure, and a generator trailer covers the circuit that trips when every air conditioner on the grid is running.

It would mix advanced manufacturing, distribution, data centers, battery storage, offices and housing, and JLL projects more than $1 billion in economic impact.
Storms and outages
A monsoon storm on August 11, 2026 snapped trees and cut power to more than 1,100 customers near Paradise Valley Mall
A monsoon storm that hit the Valley before dawn on August 11, 2026 uprooted trees, blocked roads and knocked out power to customers across the metro area. In north Phoenix, just south of Paradise Valley, more than 1,100 APS customers lost power between Hearn and Cactus roads and 40th Street and Tatum Boulevard. Trees blocked Paradise Village Parkway and Cactus Road, and a downed line was reported near 40th Street and Thunderbird Road.
Most of the outages cleared by midday, but a restaurant that loses refrigeration at 5 a.m. is often making decisions by 7. An owner with a 12ft refrigerated trailer on call can move the inventory out of a dead walk-in, and one with a generator trailer can keep the kitchen running while the utility catches up.

At the 2024 WM Phoenix Open an entry gate was closed and alcohol sales were suspended, prompting a 2025 redesign
At the 2024 WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, crowd problems led organizers to close an entry gate and briefly suspend alcohol sales. Organizers stopped publishing attendance figures after 2019, when more than 700,000 had come through in 2018, and the 16th-hole stadium alone seats 17,000. The response for 2025 was a rebuild of the flow, with a new fan entrance, wider walkways, vendors in new spots and all-digital tickets.
A tournament that size has dozens of restaurants, pop-ups and hospitality tents, and a change to where vendors stand is a change to where the cold storage goes. Operators in neighboring Paradise Valley who provide catering for those tents work out their refrigerated trailer needs months ahead, and a 20ft refrigerated container gives them a fixed, lockable place to keep the week's product close to the course.
