Thirty-two home dates, 214,400 fans, and one stadium kitchen team

The 2026 spring training season was the 33rd at Peoria Sports Complex, shared by the Mariners and Padres. The park drew 214,400 fans across 32 games, nearly 2,000 more than the year before, as the Cactus League as a whole passed 1.75 million.

Numbers like that are really a stocking problem. Concessions need drinks, dairy and proteins on hand for a stretch of home dates in March heat, not one big weekend. A rented refrigerated trailer behind the concourse gives a concession team extra cold space for the season, and a mobile kitchen trailer can handle overflow prep on the busiest days.

A $6.3 million maintenance rebuild that had to share the park with spring training

Peoria's council approved a $6.3 million contract amendment to rebuild the Sports Complex maintenance building, a structure dating to the 1990s. The plan added a secure equipment yard, a fire safety road and new parking, with ground expected to break in January 2024 and the work overlapping Spring Training 2024.

Building around an active ballpark means crews, vendors and staff all need to eat and keep things cold without crossing the concourse. A 20ft refrigerated container can sit in a staging corner for the length of the job, and a mobile kitchen keeps a work crew fed without a drive to the nearest restaurant.

A Bashas' roof gave way on August 4, 2022, weeks before the store was due to close

Part of the roof partially collapsed at the Bashas' at 75th Avenue and Thunderbird Road on the morning of August 4, 2022. An 88-acre, $500 million rebuild starts with an industrial park at 79th and Grand

Greystar's Peoria Place covers 88 acres in downtown Peoria and is valued at $500 million, with apartments, build-to-rent homes and 20 acres of open space planned. Its first phase, Caliber, is a three-building industrial park at the southwest corner of 79th and Grand avenues, expected to finish between April and June 2024.

A project this size keeps a large crew on one site for months. A 20ft refrigerated container in the staging yard stores crew lunches and drinks through the summer, and a dishwashing trailer plus a mobile kitchen can serve a bigger site safely.
