The WM Phoenix Open turns TPC Scottsdale into a stadium for a week

The WM Phoenix Open ran February 2 to 8, 2026 at TPC Scottsdale, where it has been played since 1987 and draws hundreds of thousands of fans a year. The all-time attendance mark, 719,179 for the week, was set in 2018. The Killers played a concert on the 16th hole the Saturday before it began.

A tournament at that scale runs on hospitality tents and food stands scattered around the course. Each one needs somewhere cold, and the permanent kitchens can't cover all of them. A 20ft refrigerated trailer behind a hospitality area holds a week of product, and a mobile kitchen trailer gives a caterer extra cooking capacity on the grounds.

Barrett-Jackson sold 1,911 cars in nine days, and 6,500 bidders were there to buy

The 54th Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction ran January 17 to 25, 2026 at WestWorld, with 1,911 no-reserve vehicles crossing the block, 6,500 bidders and more than $191 million in sales. Nine charity cars raised $5.855 million, and a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing topped the list at $2.53 million.

Nine days of auction means nine days of lunches and lounges. WestWorld's permanent kitchens aren't built to feed a crowd that size, so event caterers bring their own: a refrigerated trailer rental behind the tents holds the week's product, and a dishwashing trailer handles the plates and glassware a sit-down lounge goes through.

The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show started with 50 horses and now brings nearly 2,000

The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show held its 71st year February 12 to 22, 2026, with nearly 2,000 horses. It began with 50. Eleven days is a long run for any showground to keep the people on it fed.

A food vendor serving the barns and the grandstand needs a way to keep product cold at the grounds, not 20 minutes away. A 12ft refrigerated trailer is small enough to tuck behind a concession stand, and a generator trailer runs it where there's no outlet. Same idea for any caterer serving a long-running show.

Western Week brings Pony Express riders from Holbrook into Old Town

Western Week in Old Town Scottsdale ran through February 1, 2026. More than 20 Pony Express riders from the Navajo County Sheriff's Posse rode in from Holbrook on January 30 carrying letters from Arizona schoolchildren. The Parada del Sol parade and the Trail's End Festival followed on January 31, with the Arizona Indian Festival on both weekend days.

Street festivals fill Old Town's restaurants and its sidewalks with vendors. A café that has to keep its regular menu going while a parade passes by can't also store extra product in a kitchen the size of a closet. A portable refrigerated trailer in a nearby lot adds the cold space for the weekend, and it goes back the Monday after.

At Talking Stick Resort, the monsoon beat the main generator and the backup

A monsoon storm knocked out power at Talking Stick Resort around 2 a.m. on August 11, 2018. The main and backup generators both failed, flooding damaged the first floor, and hundreds of guests were evacuated. The resort stayed closed all week, reopened on August 19, and the Arizona State Poker Championship was canceled.

Two generators and a closed week is a reminder that backup power is also something that can fail. A hospitality property with a kitchen full of food can keep the cold side running separately: a refrigerated trailer staged on higher ground with its own generator trailer protects the inventory even when the building's systems are down.

A police officer spotted flames at Eggstacy before 2 a.m.

Just before 2 a.m. on September 6, 2022, an officer noticed flames coming from Eggstacy, a brunch spot near Thompson Peak Parkway and Pima Road in north Scottsdale. Firefighters found propane bottles burning on the patio and fire spreading into the attic. The damage was extensive, no one was inside, and the restaurant was expected to be closed for months.

A brunch restaurant keeps a week of eggs, dairy and produce on hand, and a closure that runs for months leaves the owner with a decision about all of it. An owner with a second location or a catering side can move the food to a 12ft refrigerated trailer at the other site, and a mobile kitchen trailer lets the team keep serving while the first building is rebuilt.

An air conditioning unit set Fogo de Chão's roof on fire at dinner time

On the evening of March 31, 2016, around 5 p.m., flames broke out on the roof of the Fogo de Chão steakhouse near Scottsdale Road and Lincoln Drive when an air conditioning unit caught fire. Heavy smoke was visible for miles. Firefighters had it under control quickly, and no one was hurt.

The detail worth noting is the timing. A fire at the start of dinner service means a walk-in full of meat and a kitchen that can't be used until the building is cleared. An emergency refrigerated trailer is the quick fix for a restaurant that has to hold its inventory for a day or two while inspectors check the roof and the kitchen.

Fire Station 606 is getting a $7.2 million rebuild, and its crew moved half a mile away

Scottsdale started a $7.2 million renovation of Fire Station 606, near Via Linda and 108th Street, in January 2026. The station was built in 1985 and will be fully accessible when it reopens, with room for an ambulance. The crew moved about half a mile to the former Noah building near Cholla Park through a partnership with Scottsdale Unified School District, and response continues without interruption.

Crews living in a temporary building for a year still need a working kitchen and somewhere cold to keep their food. A mobile kitchen trailer and a small refrigerated trailer are the standard way to keep a station running while its own kitchen is torn out, and the same setup serves any city facility in transition.

Scottsdale is putting $40 million into Old Town, and the farmers market has to move

The city committed $40 million in fiscal 2025/26 to Old Town infrastructure, with pavement work on nearly 374,000 square yards of streets and alleys running through October 2025. Bigger jobs follow: a $15.2 million Brown Avenue parking structure expansion, a $15.2 million Entertainment District garage and $7.9 million in Main Street improvements. The Old Town Farmers Market has to move to a nearby site.

Construction on a walkable street is hard on restaurants and markets. Deliveries get rerouted, and a farmers market vendor who relocates for a season needs cold storage at the new site. A 12ft refrigerated trailer makes a temporary market stall workable, and a restaurant can keep one at the back until its alley reopens.

Dozens of trees and 15 power poles came down in Scottsdale on a Monday night

A monsoon storm on the night of July 12, 2021 hit a large part of the Valley, and Scottsdale took some of the worst of it. Dozens of trees and 15 power poles came down, and tree crews were still clearing debris on Tuesday.

After a storm like that, restaurants and markets don't know how long the power will be out, and the poles have to be replaced one at a time. Waiting on the utility isn't a plan.
