Winslow's Standin' on the Corner Festival, set for September 25-26, 2026, marked 100 years of Route 66 with seven bands
Winslow's Standin' on the Corner Festival ran as a two-day event on September 25 and 26, 2026, marking the 100th anniversary of Route 66. The lineup included One of These Nights, an Eagles tribute band, the Josh Roy Band, High 90's, Tommy Dukes, Pure Prophet, the Chris Kane Trio and Ninth and Ash, with food trucks, vendors, adult beverages, and horseshoes and cornhole competitions. The organizers expected the whole town of 8,365 and then some to take part.
A festival that asks a town of 8,365 to host everyone it knows, and then everyone they know, needs more cold storage than a small downtown has. Food trucks and beverage vendors working a weekend like this one can share a 20ft refrigerated trailer behind the stage, and a generator trailer keeps the coolers going when seven bands are drawing power.

Winslow's Standin' on the Corner Festival raises money each September for a foundation that grew out of the La Posada effort
The Standin' on the Corner Park in Winslow opened in September 1999, and the festival is held each September. Proceeds go to the Standin' on a Corner Foundation, which works to revitalize downtown Winslow and grew out of the La Posada Foundation that saved the town's Harvey House. The 2025 festival was a two-day event on September 26 and 27.
A small-town festival that funds downtown work depends on volunteers, church groups and local restaurants, many of whom are using borrowed coolers. A single portable refrigerated trailer shared across a block of vendors keeps every table supplied, and a mobile kitchen trailer lets a service club cook all day without borrowing a restaurant.

Renovation
La Posada announced a $2 million first phase to restore the east grounds and railroad depot in Winslow
After seven years of fundraising and permitting, La Posada in Winslow announced a $2 million first phase to restore the hotel's east grounds and the railroad depot. The depot, designed by Mary Colter and built in 1929, is her only unrestored building. It is meant to become a museum on the Santa Fe Railway and Route 66's influence on artists, with the Hubbell Rug, models for James Turrell's Roden Crater and Santa Fe Railway car No. 502, which includes Colter's Turquoise Room.
A restoration of that kind employs masons, carpenters, conservators and a long list of subcontractors, and many of them are working in a spot with no restaurant nearby. A mobile kitchen trailer can feed the crew on the grounds, and a portable refrigerated trailer holds their food, the museum's temperature-sensitive supplies, or the catering for a groundbreaking.
Renovation
La Posada, Mary Colter's Winslow hotel from 1930, closed in 1957 and was bought for restoration in 1997
La Posada opened in Winslow in 1930 as a Fred Harvey and Santa Fe Railway showcase, designed by Mary Colter on an 11-acre site shared with the railroad station. It closed in 1957, and the Santa Fe used the building as regional offices from 1961 to 1994. Allan Affeldt and partners bought it in 1997 and carried out a comprehensive renovation. It is described as the only hotel still operating outside Grand Canyon National Park that Colter designed.
A hotel with a Harvey House restaurant has a kitchen that has to be rebuilt without losing the historic character of the rooms. During a renovation like that, a restaurant can keep serving if its cold storage sits outside the building. A 20ft refrigerated container works as a tidy walk-in at a back gate, and a portable refrigerated trailer handles banquet overflow.

After I-40 bypassed Winslow in the 1970s, an arts economy grew around La Posada and the Snowdrift Art Space
Interstate 40 sidestepped Winslow in the 1970s, and the loss of Route 66 traffic hit both the town and La Posada hard. By the early 1990s, many buildings were abandoned. La Posada's owners revived the hotel and its restaurant, the Turquoise Room, and the Snowdrift Art Space took over a former Babbitt Brothers department store. A James Turrell light installation planned for the old depot and the Station-to-Station art project have drawn visitors.
Reuse is the story of Winslow: old stores become galleries, old depots become museums, and each conversion needs a kitchen, a bar or a catering setup somewhere. Event organizers who open an exhibit in an old department store can bring in a portable refrigerated trailer for the opening night and a 12ft refrigerated trailer for a smaller gallery party.
Storms and outages
Remnants of Hurricane Priscilla flooded the Little Colorado River country near Leupp and Tolani Lake on October 10-12, 2025
Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla brought flooding to northern Arizona between October 10 and 12, 2025. Laguna Creek overflowed and washed out large sections of the Dennehotso Loop Road, and the Leupp and Tolani Lake chapters were also affected, with dams failing and waters from the Little Colorado River submerging large areas. The Navajo Nation Commission on Emergency Management approved a state of emergency for the Dennehotso and Birdsprings chapters.
Winslow sits at the edge of that country, and when roads wash out, the stores, clinics and food programs in nearby towns become the staging point. Relief groups and chapter houses often need cold storage for food and medicine, and a portable refrigerated trailer is a quick answer, with a generator trailer alongside it if the local power is out.

Winslow's city site posted an SBA disaster loan notice for businesses affected by the 2026 Pocket Fire
On October 7, 2026, the City of Winslow posted a notice that U.S. Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loans were available in connection with the Pocket Fire, with an application flyer linked on the city news page. The Pocket Fire started on June 19, 2026, in the Coconino National Forest north of Sedona, and burned 27,393 acres before being declared fully contained on July 30.
Tourism-dependent shops, guides and restaurants around Sedona lost summer revenue to that fire, and the disaster loans are meant to help businesses recover. A business in that position can use the money for a repair or an upgrade, and a portable refrigerated trailer is a flexible way to add storage without a permanent build while the books catch up.

Winslow opened a Business Retention and Expansion Incentive on October 6, 2026, with applications due December 18
On October 6, 2026, the City of Winslow announced a Business Retention and Expansion Incentive, with an application deadline of December 18, 2026. Questions went to Economic Development Director Jack Fitchett. A workshop on funding a business was scheduled for October 26 at the Winslow Public Library, and Fitchett had been named a 2026 Economic Developer of the Year in the small community category.
Programs like this tend to fund storefront work, kitchen upgrades and equipment, and every one of those projects interrupts business. A restaurant remodeling its kitchen can keep serving from a mobile kitchen trailer, and a grocer expanding its cooler can run on a 20ft refrigerated trailer while the permanent system is installed.

Storms and outages
APS cut power to about 8,000 customers around Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon on June 27, 2026 during the Pocket Fire
As the Pocket Fire grew from roughly 1,400 acres to 11,192 acres by June 29, 2026, APS cut power at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, to about 8,000 customers in high fire-risk areas around Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Power was fully restored Sunday afternoon after crews inspected lines and equipment. Kachina Village, Forest Highlands and Pine Del 99 were placed under SET status.
A deliberate shutoff gives a business a few hours of warning but not a plan. Winslow sits on the same I-40 corridor, and an outage next door matters to the restaurants and hotels that serve travelers. An operator with a generator trailer and a 12ft refrigerated trailer on standby can ride out a day without power.

Arizona's Route 66 centennial in 2026 ran from a Flagstaff car show in April to Winslow's festival in September

Kingman followed in October with street drags and its own Route 66 Fest.
A highway centennial stretches visitors across half a year, so the shops on the route stay busy for months at a time rather than a weekend. A hotel, restaurant or caterer in a town like Winslow can scale up for the peak weeks with a portable refrigerated trailer, and a mobile kitchen trailer is a flexible way to serve the car-show lunch crowd.
