The Ostrich Festival left Tumbleweed Park after 20 years
The 36th Chandler Ostrich Festival ran two weekends in March 2026, March 13 to 15 and 20 to 22, and for the first time in two decades it wasn't at Tumbleweed Park. It moved to Rawhide Western Town and Event Center, which has indoor vendor space, permanent restrooms and running water. The festival began in 1988 downtown to mark Chandler's ostrich-ranching past.
Running water changes what a food vendor can do, but cold storage is still the part nobody can plan around a park. A portable refrigerated trailer behind the vendor row covers two weekends of brisket, lemonade and funnel cake batter, and a dishwashing trailer is the easy way to handle plates for a sit-down vendor.

Six thousand tradespeople a day, 342,000 cubic yards of concrete
By October 2023, Intel's two new fabs on its Ocotillo campus in Chandler had about 6,000 skilled tradespeople on site every day and more than 10 million job hours logged. The crews had poured 342,000 cubic yards of concrete, enough to fill 103 Olympic swimming pools, and the first part of the cleanroom was weather tight.
Six thousand people on one construction site means thousands of lunches in a Chandler summer. A site like that is exactly where a 20ft refrigerated container works as temporary cold storage for caterers, and a mobile kitchen trailer can turn out hot meals for a shift without sending anyone to a restaurant.

Fab 52 took 3.5 years and 55 cranes, and then it won Project of the Year
Intel's Fab 52 in Chandler is 2.9 million square feet, with about 685,000 square feet of cleanroom. Building it took roughly three and a half years, up to 55 cranes at once and more than 31,000 craftworkers over the course of the job. Commercial operations started in October 2025, and the project took Engineering News-Record's national Project of the Year in spring 2026.
Big builds are won on logistics, including how crews eat and drink in 110-degree weather. Contractors on projects like this one use portable cold storage on site for the length of the job, and a 20ft refrigerated trailer can move from one phase to the next as the crew's headcount changes.

Seafood City opened at Chandler Fashion Center with a 300-seat food hall
Seafood City, Arizona's first location of the Filipino supermarket chain, opened July 30, 2026 in the former Sears at Chandler Fashion Center, with a live seafood wall and a 300-seat food hall. A redevelopment of the mall's south end starts in August 2026, with the Valley's second Din Tai Fung and Arizona's first Wagyu House due in 2027.
A mall turning into a dining district has a long stretch where the permanent kitchens aren't finished and the tenants still need to be fed. A mobile kitchen trailer and a refrigerated trailer rental cover the gap for a restaurant that wants to open a pop-up in the parking lot, or a contractor feeding a crew while the walls go up.

A 100,000-square-foot medical building is going up on the Chandler Regional campus
Dignity Health broke ground in November 2025 on a four-story, 100,000-square-foot medical office building on the Chandler Regional campus, due to open in fall 2026. It will hold an ambulatory surgery center, an imaging center, a multi-specialty practice, and neurological, thoracic and rehabilitation care.
Medical campuses stay open during construction, and their food service and supply rooms still need steady cold storage. When a project reroutes utilities or takes a loading dock offline, a temporary refrigerated trailer parked on the grounds keeps the cold chain intact, and a generator trailer covers any planned power shutdowns.
Renovation
Dr. A.J. Chandler Park hosts 100 events a year and just started a rebuild
Phase one of the renovation of Dr. A.J. Chandler Park began in January 2026. The plan removes older water features, adds two pavilions, two restroom buildings, storage rooms, two large shade canopies, new plazas and public art, and a new crosswalk signal on Arizona Avenue. The park hosts more than 100 events a year, including the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting and a weekly farmers market.
More event space and storage rooms mean bigger crowds and more food. During the build, and for opening-day events once it's done, a portable 12ft refrigerated trailer is the simplest way to keep farmers-market produce or a caterer's inventory cold in a city park with no permanent coolers.

Storms and outages
A microburst flipped planes at Chandler Municipal Airport
On the night of August 11, 2015 a microburst hit Chandler Municipal Airport. Fire officials counted 41 planes damaged, some flipped upside down or snapped at the wings, a hangar door was torn off, and a pecan grove lost more than a dozen trees. High winds also broke power poles in Chandler. Nobody was hurt.
Storm nights like that one give a business only hours to react. A Chandler restaurant or grocery that can't count on its power has a short list of options, and a refrigerated trailer with a generator trailer alongside is the one that keeps inventory cold without waiting for the lines to be fixed.
Storms and outages
A dust wall 6,000 feet tall rolled into Chandler at 6 p.m.
On September 2, 2022 a wall of dust roughly 50 miles wide and up to 6,000 feet tall crossed into Chandler and Gilbert around 6 p.m., with gusts to 65 mph and zero visibility in places. At the height of the storm nearly 5,000 SRP customers in the Southeast Valley lost power, and around 2,000 APS customers elsewhere in the metro area.
A Friday at 6 p.m. is a busy hour for a restaurant, and zero visibility means no deliveries either. A portable 20ft refrigerated trailer on standby lets a kitchen move its stock out of a failing cooler fast, and a mobile kitchen trailer can keep serving if the dining room goes dark.

Gilbert is about 7 miles east of Chandler.

Fires
La Bocca and Modern Margarita shared a kitchen, and a fire took both
On November 7, 2017 a fire started in the shared kitchen of La Bocca Pizzeria and Modern Margarita at Arizona Avenue and Boston Street in downtown Chandler. Officials called it a total loss. About six months later management announced they wouldn't reopen in the space, citing the extent of the damage.
Two restaurants on one kitchen meant two sets of inventory lost at once, and six months is a long time to wait on an insurance adjuster. Cold storage in the meantime is the part a restaurant can solve fast. A rented refrigerated trailer at a second location or a commissary holds the stock, and a mobile kitchen trailer lets a team keep catering while it looks for a new home.
Fires
A fire in a produce display closed 99 Ranch Market on a Saturday morning
Crews were called to 99 Ranch Market at Dobson Road and Chandler Boulevard just before 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022. They found white smoke and a small fire in the store's produce area, and investigators traced it to a display appliance. It was first treated as suspicious, then ruled accidental. The store was closed and empty, and the damage was limited, with some water damage reported.
A refrigerated produce case is also a fire risk, and when one fails the whole department has to come out. A grocery that needs to protect perishables while the case is checked can move them into a 12ft refrigerated trailer at the loading dock until the aisle is safe to reopen.
