FoodieLand takes over Phoenix Raceway in Avondale September 25–27, 2026

Phoenix Raceway's 2026 calendar lists the FoodieLand food festival for September 25–27, after the free Avondale Light Up the Sky celebration on July 4. A food festival on a racetrack infield means dozens of vendors, each with refrigerated product, working from tents and trucks on pavement in the Arizona heat.

Cold storage is the limiting factor at a festival like this: ingredients, drinks and desserts all need to stay cold across a three-day weekend. A vendor group can share a 20ft refrigerated trailer behind the booths or bring a mobile kitchen trailer for hot food, with a generator trailer in place of a power drop.

Wind carried culvert pipes from a construction site into an Avondale neighborhood on August 9, 2026

A storm late on Sunday, August 9, 2026 blew large culvert pipes from a nearby construction site into a neighborhood near Indian School and El Mirage roads in Avondale. They smashed block walls and roof tiles, hit cars and came to rest against homes, one landing near a bedroom, and no one was hurt. Across the street, Valley Golf Center closed half its driving range when damaged netting left balls at risk of reaching the road.

Cleanup after a storm like that runs for days, with contractors, adjusters and neighbors all around. Many residents lost power in the same storm. A mobile kitchen can feed a repair crew on a street where nobody's kitchen is working, and a business with a full cooler and no power can use a generator trailer and a refrigerated trailer.

Avondale's $5.4 million fire training center on Lower Buckeye Road opened in April 2026

Avondale firefighters started training on April 28, 2026 at a new $5.4 million center at 425 E. Lower Buckeye Road, followed by a ribbon cutting that week. The roughly six-acre site has a class-A live-fire building, a clean-burn structure, a flashover chamber and props for vehicle extrication, trench rescue and roof ventilation.

Live-fire training is hot, repetitive work, and a six-acre yard is an easy place to host a visiting academy or a regional drill. A mobile kitchen trailer can feed a big class at the site, and a refrigerated trailer holds water, sports drinks and meals for crews cycling through heat and live burns.

A brush fire in the Agua Fria river bottom near Van Buren Street and Dysart Road drew crews from several cities

Avondale police and fire crews were called to a brush fire in the Agua Fria river bottom near Van Buren Street and Dysart Road just before 6 p.m. on July 6, 2025, and fire departments from neighboring cities sent crews to help. Crews were still working to put it out late that night.

River-bottom fires pull in departments from across the West Valley and keep crews on scene for hours in the July heat. A refrigerated trailer holds the water and food for a staging area, a mobile kitchen feeds a crew, and nearby businesses that lose power in a fire can use a generator trailer.

Phase 5 of Avondale's Old Town overhaul replaced aging water lines and hydrants from September 2025 to mid-2026

Starting September 22, 2025, Phase 5 of Avondale's Old Town infrastructure project began replacing the aging water system, including new pipelines, service lines and fire hydrants, then upgrading sidewalks and ramps to ADA standards and resurfacing roads. It covered Main Street to Whyman Avenue and Western Avenue to Pacific Drive, with work estimated to finish by late July 2026.

Digging up a street with water-line work means shutoffs and detours for the restaurants and shops along it. A restaurant that loses water for a day can serve from a mobile kitchen trailer with a dishwashing trailer, and a refrigerated trailer holds product when a walk-in has to be shut down during a utility cut-over.

Avondale picked Blueprints Capital and Whitten Development for 16 acres off I-10 at The BLVD

In August 2025, Avondale chose Blueprints Capital and Whitten Development to build a restaurant, retail and entertainment hub on 16 acres of city-owned land right off Interstate 10 on Avondale Boulevard. The parcel is a key piece of the city's 356-acre downtown district, known as The BLVD, and is meant to be a gateway into the city.

A hub with restaurants and entertainment venues puts several kitchens into construction at once, and tenants rarely open the same week. An operator that needs to start serving before the permanent kitchen is finished can use a mobile kitchen trailer with a refrigerated trailer next to it, and a dishwashing trailer to cover the back-of-house.

Festival Fields Park reopened in Avondale on November 30, 2019, after a $19 million, 30-acre expansion

Avondale held the grand reopening of Festival Fields Park at 101 E. Lower Buckeye Road on November 30, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m., with free admission, sports demos, a DJ and food. The $19 million, 30-acre expansion added a fishing lake, dog park, splash park, skate park, ball fields, multi-use fields and picnic shelters.

A park with that many fields and a lake becomes a venue for tournaments, league nights and weekend picnics all year, and none of that comes with a kitchen. A league or a vendor can serve a crowd from a mobile kitchen trailer, keep drinks and ice in a 12ft refrigerated trailer and power both from a generator trailer.

A big tree fell on a power support line in Avondale during monsoon storms on August 12, 2026

Monsoon storms on August 12, 2026 knocked down trees across parts of the Phoenix area, and in Avondale a big tree fell on a power support line, though no one in the neighborhood lost electricity. Officials reported no major damage and several communities got nearly an inch of rain. Some residents were worried because roofs had not been repaired since the previous storm.

Back-to-back storms in the same week leave a lot of damage unfixed when the next one arrives. For a restaurant, grocer or care facility, that means having a plan before the next system. A generator trailer and a refrigerated trailer arranged ahead of time cost less than lost product in a power outage.

Avondale broke ground on a $4.8 million lake, koi pond and splash pad at The BLVD in April 2021

On April 5, 2021, Avondale and Willmeng Construction broke ground virtually on water features for The BLVD, the city's downtown district. The $4.8 million project includes two entrance water features, a one-acre lake, a koi pond, a splash pad and pedestrian bridges across more than 5.5 acres of public space, with completion planned for August 2021.

A downtown built around a lake and a splash pad is built for outdoor events, and outdoor events need food and drink on site. Organizers of a festival or a concert on the lawn can run a mobile kitchen trailer and a 20ft refrigerated trailer behind the stage, which is simpler than building a kitchen into every venue.
