Navajo County told Snowflake and Taylor residents to prepare for evacuation from the Silver Creek drainage on July 24, 2021

On July 24, 2021, Navajo County issued an evacuation order for the Silver Creek Drainage Basin, from Shumway through Taylor and Snowflake, after heavy monsoon storms. Residents were told they might have as little as one to four hours. Shelters opened at Holbrook High School and the Navajo County Fairgrounds.

A flood evacuation is a different kind of emergency, because the power may stay on while the roads go. Anyone with a business in the path had to decide what to take and what to leave. A portable refrigerated trailer can move perishables to higher ground, and a generator trailer keeps it cold once it gets there.

Navajo County declared a flooding emergency on July 23, 2021, and sandbag stations opened across the area

On July 23, 2021, the Navajo County Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency because of localized flooding. The hardest-hit areas included White Mountain Lakes, Linden, Lakeside and Heber, sections of Silver Creek Drive and Silver Creek Boulevard were closed, and sandbag stations opened in several communities.

Snowflake sits down the same drainage, so a declaration like this gets the whole town's attention a day early. Merchants fill sandbags, move stock off the floor and check the generator. A 20ft refrigerated trailer is an easy way to move a grocer's cold stock to a dry lot, and a generator trailer keeps the trailer running.

Snowflake's council moved forward on a two-mile paved path along Rodeo Road and a possible $100,000 State Parks grant

At its December 2 meeting, Snowflake's council discussed park and public trail expansion, including a two-mile paved path along Rodeo Road at State Route 77. The town was considering a State Parks grant of up to $100,000 to help pay for it.

A paved path two miles long means grading, paving and striping, and a crew eating lunch beside the road. A contractor can bring a mobile kitchen trailer to the site, with a portable refrigerated trailer for the cold food. The same equipment helps a town hold a grand opening when the work is done.

Snowflake's council discussed a block wall and landscaping for the town yard at Hillcrest Drive and Sandtrap Lane in March 2026

On March 1, 2026, Snowflake's council discussed the town yard at Hillcrest Drive and Sandtrap Lane after neighbors complained about its appearance. Several members supported replacing the fence with a block wall and adding landscaping, and staff said vehicle track-out was a concern but easy to mitigate. The direction was to keep using the yard while planning improvements.

A wall and landscaping job in a residential area is small by contractor standards but still takes a crew for days. Lunch and cold drinks in a Snowflake summer are a real part of the schedule. A 12ft refrigerated trailer holds a week's worth of food and drinks, and a mobile kitchen trailer is available if the crew is larger.

Snowflake's council flagged Porter Road as a safety concern in March 2026, with some stretches down to 17 feet wide

On March 1, 2026, Snowflake councilors called Porter Road an ongoing safety and standards problem, with some stretches not meeting code and a council member noting it was down to only 17 feet wide in places. Engineering work began about three years ago but other priorities delayed it. Staff recommended continuing with Painted Sky, which had completed preliminary work.

Road widening is slow work, and by the time a crew breaks ground, the project has been on paper for years. The crew then needs food, ice and shade on site. A portable refrigerated trailer at the job site keeps lunch cold, and a mobile kitchen trailer can serve a hot meal when the nearest restaurant is miles away.

Snowflake Pioneer Days brings a parade, rodeo, car show, historic home tours and fireworks to town

Snowflake Pioneer Days celebrates the town's pioneer heritage with a parade, a rodeo, programs, arts and crafts, tours of historic homes, a car show, pioneer games, fireworks and a concert.

A festival with that many parts means a lot of food stands, and a lot of people standing in the sun. With a parade, rodeo and car show in one program, the cooking and cold storage add up. A 12ft refrigerated trailer can serve a stand, and a portable refrigerated trailer is better for a booster group that is feeding the whole event.
