A Sunday windstorm took out about 50 poles and power for 36,000 customers in Bullhead City in September 2022

Wind microbursts reported at more than 80 mph hit Bullhead City on Sunday evening, September 4, 2022, taking out more than 50 distribution poles and leaving about 36,000 Mohave Electric Cooperative customers, most of the city, without power. Officials said the transmission provider's 230 kV line was also down, so the area lost access to the bulk grid. Many customers were out for more than 20 hours, and water service was disrupted in some neighborhoods.

Daytime temperatures were near triple digits, so a refrigerator without power was a problem by Monday morning. A restaurant, a market or a care home can keep a generator trailer and a refrigerated trailer on call, because when the grid itself is down there's no alternative feed to count on.

After the 2022 windstorm, St. Mary's Food Bank trucked in more than 20,000 pounds of food and water to Bullhead City

St. Mary's Food Bank delivered more than 20,000 pounds of food and water to Bullhead City overnight on September 6, 2022, after the windstorm, including bottled water, fruit, vegetables, bread and snacks. The city ran a distribution site at Community Park where hundreds came within a couple of hours, four cooling stations stayed open around the clock, and one resident said the extra food would help after she threw out what spoiled in her refrigerator.

A distribution day with fruit, vegetables and perishables needs cold storage on site. A food bank, a church or the city can hold a delivery in a 20ft refrigerated trailer at the distribution site, with a generator trailer to run it where the power is out. A mobile kitchen is another way to feed people.

A late-August 2025 microburst damaged power lines and homes and left thousands in Bullhead City without electricity

A microburst hit Bullhead City in late August 2025, damaging power lines and homes and leaving thousands of residents without electricity. City officials attributed the damage to strong winds and heavy rain, and most of the power had been restored by the time FOX 10's report ran that night.

Three years after the 2022 storm, thousands were dark again. A business with perishable stock can plan for the next one: a generator trailer and a 12ft refrigerated trailer placed ahead of the next storm line keep the cooler on, and a 20ft refrigerated trailer holds more.

Severe storms and flooding on September 28, 2026 led to about a dozen vehicle water-rescue calls in Bullhead City

Severe storms hit Bullhead City on Monday, September 28, 2026, and emergency officials took roughly a dozen calls about vehicles in flooded or fast-moving water, including a rescue from a partly submerged vehicle on Riverfront Drive. The next day the city closed all municipal athletic fields, Rotary Park to vehicles, the Community Park South Beach and the Ken Fovargue pool through Thursday, while crews cleared debris, mud and rocks.

Parks and pools that are closed for cleanup also mean canceled tournaments, swim meets and concession sales, with stocked coolers waiting. A concession group can park a refrigerated trailer on higher ground to hold product until fields reopen, and crews who spend days sweeping streets and clearing debris can be fed from a mobile kitchen trailer set up at a staging area.

The $60.6 million Silver Copper Crossing opened between Laughlin and Bullhead City on June 7, 2024, with food trucks and a parade of classic cars

The 724-foot Silver Copper Crossing opened on Friday, June 7, 2024, linking Laughlin and Bullhead City, with a 9 a.m. celebration of classic cars, free donuts and snow cones, a 10 a.m. ribbon cutting and a car-club parade across the bridge at 11. The party then moved to the Field House on the Arizona side with a band and food trucks. The $60.6 million project began in November 2021 and sits 8 miles south of the area's other bridge, which opened in 1987.

A morning ribbon cutting followed by an afternoon street party on a June day in the desert comes with its own cold storage problem: snow cones, drinks and truck inventory. Event organizers and food truck operators on a project like this can hold product in a 12ft refrigerated trailer near the site and keep a crew fed from a mobile kitchen trailer during a long construction run.

Bullhead City heard a plan for more than 2,500 acres of light industrial use at Laughlin Ranch in May 2026

At a May 2026 workshop, the Bullhead City Council heard an updated vision for Laughlin Ranch, an existing golf-course community. The land south of Laughlin Ranch Boulevard was once planned for a second golf course and about 1,500 acres of housing, and the revised plan envisions more than 2,500 acres of light industrial use while keeping open space for hiking and trails.

Light industrial land attracts companies that store, assemble and ship things, and a lot of them need cold space on short notice. A tenant that starts operations before a permanent cooler is built can use a 20ft refrigerated trailer or a refrigerated container at the dock, and the crews building out the site can be fed from a mobile kitchen.

A brush fire near 7th Street and Highway 95 came with a power outage in the surrounding area in May 2026

Bullhead City firefighters responded to an early-morning brush fire near 7th Street and Highway 95 on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The fire was under control with crews monitoring hot spots, and Mohave Electric Cooperative was working to restore power to an outage in the surrounding area. The cause was under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
