Gov. Doug Ducey declared an emergency for Mammoth in August 2018 after monsoon rain damaged the town's water system

In August 2018, more than three inches of monsoon rain damaged roads and infrastructure in Mammoth, and saturated ground compromised the town's water system, cutting off access to safe drinking water. Gov. Doug Ducey issued a state emergency declaration on August 13, the General Fund provided $200,000 for emergency measures and permanent repairs, and the town set up cooling centers and distributed water.

When the water stops, a town gets by on bottled supplies, and the cooling centers need cold drinks and food for the people who come in. A portable refrigerated trailer is a practical way to hold cases of water and perishable meals at a distribution point, and a generator trailer keeps it cold in August heat.

Mammoth's tentative FY 2025-26 budget totaled $15.3 million, up from $13.66 million, with a hearing on July 3

The Town of Mammoth held a budget work session on June 26 and a public hearing on the FY 2025-26 budget and property tax levy on July 3, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 125 N. Clark St. The tentative budget totaled $15.3 million, up from $13.66 million.

A budget that grows from $13.66 million to $15.3 million may mean more public works, and public works mean contractors who need a place to eat and keep drinks cold. A paving job or a water line repair runs better when the crew isn't driving back to town at lunch. A 12ft refrigerated trailer and a mobile kitchen trailer can be set at the staging area for the length of the job.

Mammoth sought estimates for roof repairs at Town Hall and the ramada at Ysidro Ruiz Park in July 2025

In July 2025 the Town of Mammoth asked contractors for estimates or proposals for roof repairs at Town Hall and the ramada at Ysidro Ruiz Park. Contractors were asked to call Town Hall at 520-487-2331 to arrange a site visit.

Roofing in July is hard on a crew, and a job in Mammoth's heat goes best with cold water on the ground and a shaded place to eat. Roofers start early and leave early, and the break in between is when the cooler matters. A contractor can park a 12ft refrigerated trailer next to the work area, and a generator trailer handles the power.

Mammoth's swimming pool was open free from noon to 4 p.m. during the July 4, 2025 festivities

The Town of Mammoth Swimming Pool was open free from noon to 4 p.m. during the July 4, 2025 festivities. That week the town also held a public hearing on its FY 2025-26 budget at Town Hall.

A 12ft refrigerated trailer beside the pool gate handles that, and a generator trailer keeps it powered.

The Red Cross said responders in Mammoth and nearby communities can be nearly 100 miles away

A Red Cross volunteer leader said in July 2025 that responders in Mammoth and nearby communities can be nearly 100 miles away, which causes delays. The organization was looking for at least one local volunteer in each major Copper Corridor town.

Mammoth already learned in 2018 what it means to wait for help while the water is out. A town that expects slow outside help can make its own plan, and cold storage is part of one. A portable refrigerated trailer and a generator trailer reserved ahead of monsoon season keep food and medicine safe until help arrives.

A monsoon week of flash flooding made most of Mammoth below Highway 77 hard to reach

During a stretch of monsoon storms reported by the Copper Area News, flash flooding made most of Mammoth below Highway 77 hard to reach. Town crews cleared Kino Street several times of dirt and rocks and cleared debris from Third and Main Streets. One resident recorded more than six inches of rain from Tuesday through Friday, and Pinal County closed Copper Creek Road in the Mammoth area while the San Pedro River was running.

A town cut in two by water has stores and homes on the wrong side of a washout. Deliveries stop, and the food in coolers is on its own. A store with a portable refrigerated trailer parked on high ground can keep inventory protected, and a generator trailer keeps the cooler running if the lines come down.

A 2015 monsoon storm stalled over San Manuel and damaged roads and classrooms

In early August 2015, a monsoon storm "just seemed to stop over San Manuel," a Pinal County official said, dropping a large amount of water in a short time. Public works crews worked through the weekend to make streets drivable, and a few classrooms at the local elementary school were damaged. Students were still set to start classes later that week.

A school with water in its classrooms before the first day is a hard morning for the district, and cafeteria staff still have to feed students once classes start. A 20ft refrigerated trailer can hold the food for the first weeks while a damaged kitchen is repaired.
