Construction
Oro Valley Marketplace broke ground on 320 apartments, a park and a pedestrian tunnel in October 2025
Phase one of the Oro Valley Marketplace redevelopment began October 6, 2025, with HSL Properties and Borderland Construction building the 320-unit Encantada apartments south of Tangerine Road, a neighborhood park between Walmart and Tuk Tuk Thai, a pedestrian tunnel under Water Harvest Way and new intersection work. The apartments are expected to finish in mid-to-late 2027, and the Marketplace stays open with heavier traffic through 2027.
Shops and restaurants that stay open through two years of lane closures and water-line work have a harder time with deliveries and storage. A tenant that loses back-of-house space can use a refrigerated trailer, and a restaurant with a water shutoff can serve from a mobile kitchen with a dishwashing trailer beside it.

The Oro Valley Spring Festival of the Arts filled the Marketplace with more than 125 artists in March 2026
The 2026 Oro Valley Spring Festival of the Arts ran March 7–8 at the Oro Valley Marketplace on Oracle Road, with more than 125 artists showing and selling work. Food is listed as a vendor category, and the event includes a beer and wine garden and artisan foods.
A two-day art show means long hours in the sun and a lot of people wanting something cold, from a beer and wine garden's inventory to a food booth's ingredients. A vendor group can run a 12ft refrigerated trailer behind the booths to hold kegs, ice and prepared food, and a generator trailer powers it in a parking lot with no spare outlets.

Oro Valley's free July Fourth night at Kriegh Park had live music, food trucks and a 9 p.m. fireworks show
Oro Valley's July 4, 2025 celebration ran from 5 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. at James D. Kriegh Park, with the Lucky Devils Band playing two sets, games and kids' crafts, a beer garden for adults and food trucks all evening. Fireworks began at 9 p.m., parking was at the Aquatic Center and Canyon del Oro High School, and coolers were subject to inspection.
A free event with food trucks and a beer garden means vendors need ice and cold storage on a park lawn on one of the hottest evenings of the year. A truck operator or a booster group can park a 12ft refrigerated trailer behind the vendor row, and a mobile kitchen trailer adds capacity for hot food.
Fires
The Bighorn Fire put eastern Oro Valley on alert to leave in June 2020
By June 12, 2020, the Bighorn Fire had burned roughly 7,000 acres in the Catalina Mountains and was described as threatening homes in eastern Oro Valley. Residents and businesses east of Oracle Road, from Magee Road to Catalina State Park, were told to be prepared to leave if conditions changed. The fire eventually burned nearly 120,000 acres of the Coronado National Forest.
A fire that long on the edge of town puts families on alert for weeks and forces restaurants and stores to think about what's in their coolers. A refrigerated trailer can take stock out of a building in an evacuation zone, and a mobile kitchen can feed evacuees or the people working the fire line.

Four years after the Bighorn Fire, crews were still managing sediment in the Cañada del Oro Wash
The Bighorn Fire left a large load of sediment and debris in Oro Valley's primary watershed, the Cañada del Oro Wash, and by July 2024 Pima County was working to manage it with a FEMA grant of about $2.5 million. Removing the sediment wasn't an option, so crews planned to use freeboard to reduce spill-overs and clear sections throughout Oro Valley, with the aim of finishing by the end of 2024.
Wash work means heavy equipment, crews in the heat and trail closures that last for months. A contractor can keep lunches and water in a refrigerated container at the staging yard and feed a crew from a mobile kitchen trailer. Homes and businesses near the wash can use a generator trailer if flooding takes out power.
Construction
Oro Valley finished a $294,000 Sierra Wash repair at Naraha Drive on March 2, 2026
Oro Valley's Stormwater Utility Commission heard on March 19, 2026 that the Sierra Wash repair at Naraha Drive was finished March 2 at a total cost of $294,000, with $211,000 federal and $83,000 from the town. The list also includes the Catalina Ridge Channel sediment removal at about $388,000 and a Pomegranate Drive culvert replacement that could cost roughly $1.2 million.
Wash repairs and culvert work happen in the dry months, and the next storm is the deadline. Crews on those jobs work long days far from a restaurant, and a mobile kitchen feeds them on site. Businesses downstream of a problem wash can arrange a generator trailer and a refrigerated trailer before monsoon season if flooding is a risk.

Storms and outages
Equipment damage cut power to more than 3,800 Oro Valley homes and businesses on June 18, 2020
On the afternoon of Thursday, June 18, 2020, Tucson Electric Power customers in Oro Valley lost power when equipment was damaged, with more than 3,800 homes and businesses affected. TEP said the failure was unrelated to the Bighorn Fire burning in the nearby Catalina Mountains, and service was restored to all customers.
An afternoon outage in June puts every cooler and walk-in on a clock. In a town of restaurants, grocery stores and senior communities, a generator trailer feeding a 12ft refrigerated trailer is the simplest way to hold product through an outage that lasts longer than the utility's first estimate.
Storms and outages
A mid-August 2023 monsoon storm shattered windows and dropped trees on Oro Valley homes
A monsoon storm hit Oro Valley on a Wednesday evening in mid-August 2023, shattering a large living room window, moving a heavy grill across a backyard and bringing down trees. A restoration carpenter said two or three trees were resting on homes, and crews were dealing with water damage and broken glass.
After a storm like that, restoration crews are on site for days and a home may need its kitchen torn out, with a refrigerator full of food that has nowhere to go. A refrigerated trailer in the driveway or at a neighborhood clubhouse can hold food for several households while repairs run, and a generator trailer powers it.

Storms and outages
A 60 mph storm tore solar panels off a Rancho Vistoso roof in August 2018
On the night of August 1, 2018, a monsoon storm with winds estimated near 60 mph hit the area around Rancho Vistoso Boulevard and Tangerine Road in Oro Valley and sheared the solar panels off a home's roof, damaging the roof and the front walkway. No one was hurt, and the owners said earlier storms had never caused a problem.
Wind that strong can damage commercial roofs, HVAC units and utility lines too, and a business with a rooftop unit down loses its cooling that night. A 20ft refrigerated trailer can take the stock out of a failed walk-in, and a generator trailer bridges a power gap until the roof, the line or the compressor is fixed.
Storms and outages
Weather damage left thousands of Oro Valley residents in the dark until about 4 a.m. in March 2019
In March 2019, TEP crews blamed weather-related equipment damage for an outage that left thousands of residents in Oro Valley and the Catalina area without power. The estimated restoration time was 2 a.m., but some customers waited until about 4 a.m. Two years earlier, on June 7, 2017, more than 1,700 Oro Valley residents lost power in a short outage with the cause under investigation.
Repeated outages of a few hours at night are long enough to spoil a freezer or a pantry in a clinic, a restaurant or a retirement community kitchen. A generator trailer and a refrigerated trailer arranged ahead of time are a more dependable plan than hoping for a quick restore.
